What is a DMARC record?
A DNS TXT record at _dmarc.yourdomain.com that tells inboxes what to do with email claiming to be from you that fails SPF and DKIM: nothing (none), send to spam (quarantine) or block it (reject). It also asks inboxes to send you reports.
What DMARC policy should I start with?
p=none. It changes nothing for your mail but starts the reports, so you can see every service sending as you. Move to quarantine once all your real senders pass, then to reject.
Do I need SPF and DKIM before DMARC?
Yes. DMARC checks that SPF or DKIM passes and lines up with your domain. Without them, a strict DMARC policy will junk your own email.
Where do I add the DMARC record?
In the DNS settings wherever your domain is managed (Cloudflare, GoDaddy, Crazy Domains, Squarespace and so on). Add a TXT record, name it _dmarc and paste the value.
